Overview
When we started Digital Inclusion 2016, one of our first goals and project was to make computers available to people in Luxembourg who cannot afford them.
By the end of 2017, we have distributed over 1000 computers. As of today we are still collecting functioning, used laptops and desktop computers.
Everybody in Luxembourg can participate in this project!
Everybody can contribute by donating old IT material when buying new one, allowing environment friendly reuse of no longer needed resources.
As a service to the donators, we guarantee secure removal of all existing data. We erase all data in a permanent way. Alternatively we remove the hard drive with your data for you too keep.
Another way of participating is by becoming a volunteer yourself!
Re-use activity
In our work
shop, we safely erase all data on the donated devices. We check the functions and do repairs as we see fit.
By recovering parts from broken computers, we are able to many repairs without buying new parts.
The computers are all equipped with a wifi adapter, screen, keyboard, mouse and pre-installed software. They are ready to use.
Distribution: helping those who cannot afford a computer
We distribute the computers to refugees and other people in Luxembourg; to individuals and to organizations.
Individuals receiving a computer all participate in a first steps class where they learn how to start using the computer with the pre-installed software.
Project aims and vision
Another aim of the project is to get volunteers (refugees and everybody else) involved with the technical and educational operations around the recycling process, as well as residents who are interested in IT, enabling social exchange between IT enthusiast. Our international team currently has volunteers from all 5 continents!
Our vision is to continue the project as long as there are people in need for computers they cannot afford.
